on his way to yesterday
he ran into tomorrows
on the run
from what yesterday did

he tripped on the moon
then fell through
galaxies of
a thousand sadder songs

singing about memories
that remembered
what he couldn’t get through
getting past, getting over

as he used borrowed time
like bandages
muffle what doesn’t bleed
except in his eyes

somewhere a star in the wind
rides with the hawk and a
changing sun brings sunshine
with the prayers of ghosts
